The musical score, which is one of the best things about the movie, sounds great, with nice clear bass and mo distortion. It's put to good use in the first scene, in the cafe- cups and plates can be heard tinkling in the back speakers. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix here is pretty good. There are a lot of scrathes and spots popping up here and there, and there are places where the film is really grainy, but on the whole everything looks tight and clean. The edges are not overenhanced or too sharp, the colors are nice, and the blacks are solid. 8 out of 10Īlthough this is a non-anamorphic, 2.35:1 transfer, it looks great on a regular TV. Pink, and the vastly underrated Michael Madsen as the psychotic Mr. Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi as Mr.
Banal, insightful, stupid, obnoxious, brusque- the guy's got an ear.Īnd of course the performance in this movie are top-shelf. Say what you will about Tarantino, the guy can write men's dialogue. Reservoir Dogs could easily have been a stage play it's almost all dialogue, with very few settings and little action. In this movie Tarantino employs the broken-timeline style that has appeared in both of his subsequent features, and it's used to really good effect here. The heist goes horribly wrong, and the surviving thieves realize that one of them must be a police informant- but which one? Pink- plans a jewelry store heist in Los Angeles. Reservoir Dogs was good enough to get the money and talent that went into Pulp Fiction, one of the most celebrated movies of the decade.Ī group of hoods, known only by the codenames they're given by the ringleader- Mr. Though he had written a few successful movies ( True Romance, the original script for Natural Born Killers) but it wasn't until this, his directorial debut, that he got full-on famous, and became a household name. If you haven't seen Reservoir Dogs, just rent it, buy it or steal it right now. There was a time when no one had ever heard of Quentin Tarantino. I didn't care much for the "Kill Bill" movies, but who cares, I'm not reviewing them. This is better that Pulp Fiction and in my opinion definitely Tarintino's best movie. The storyline is unpredictable and thrilling. Its almost like you forget the whole movie after you watch it, and the next time you watch it, there's a whole scene that you forgot was there. The violence is used sparingly, and to better effect. I mean who stops to get fries and soda just after committing a robbery? The fact that everything is ludicrous, but you don't know this because these guys, and the way they talk is so impossibly cool that you just accept it. Mr.Blonde is totally believable as a psycho. The one liners are classic: "Are you gonna bark all day.", "I'll make you my dog's bitch". You simply watch it for the sheer quality and originality of the movie. I still watch it at least once a year, because its not the kind of movie you watch to unwind or to pass the time. This is one of the movies I don't get bored watching time and time again. I was just sitting there saying "Wheres all the violence", Anyway, I watched it till the end, and then I watched it again, and since then it has just grew on me. Naturally I did everything in my power to get my paws on a copy, and when I finally did see it, I was disappointed. The first time I saw Reservoir Dogs, I was about 15, it had been banned in my country, and I heard it was extremely voilent.
